15h 21min, mar 10, 1857 y - Dred Scott vs. Sanford
Description:
This case was about a black man who had lived with his owner in a free state then went back to the slave state of Missouri. Scott argued that because he spent time in a free state it entitled him to emancipation. The supreme court denied his emancipation and said that no black man free or slave could claim US citizenship. Therefore blacks were not able to use the courts to petition for their freedom. This decision is know as the dread Scott decision and it created more tensions between northern and southern states.
