sep 15, 1850 - Compromise of 1850
Description:
Divisions over slavery in territory that was gained after the Mexican War was resolved because of the compromise of 1850. The compromise of 1850 had laws that admitted California as a free state while Utah and New Mexico's slavery or not would be determined by the people (popular sovereighty). This settled a Texas-New Mexico boundary and ending the slave trade in D.C., this made it easier for the southerners to recover fugitive slaves.
