Description:
The AERA was founded by Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, Lucy Stone and Frederick Douglass. Their purpose, as stated in their constitution, was “to secure Equal Rights to all American citizens, especially the right of suffrage, irrespective of race, color or sex”. This is important because it was very progressive, leading to the founding of the NWSA which focused more purposely on women’s rights to vote.
