Abraham Lincoln was an American statesman and lawyer who served at the 16th President of the United States form March of 1861 until his assassination on April 15th, 1865. During his presidency, he signed the first Homestead Act which allowed poor people to obtain land. He established the US Department of Agriculture, And most notably, Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation which led to the abolishment of slavery. His persistence and bravery helped the Civil War come to an end and the preservation of the Union.
