oct 20, 1943 - Philippines Campaign (Philippines 1944-1945)
Description:
On October 20th, 1943 General Douglas MacArthur landed once again in the Philippines. This time, Americans took control of the island of Leyte. The Philippines campaign took until very early September 1945. General Douglas MacArthur had fulfilled his promise to the Americans and Philippines, that he would be back. Even after the Battle of Leyte Gulf, there were still 80,000 Japanese soldiers on Leyte. The American marines staged many amphibious landings, island hopping, until the Philippines were freed. Even after the liberation of the Philippines, there were still Japanese soldiers fighting, showing resistance.
The Philippines Campaign was important, because it boosted American and Philipino war, since MacArthur kept his promise. It also showed that victory was clear, it was only a matter of time.
