aug 19, 1920 - Nineteenth Amendment

Description:

The 19th Amendment gave women the right to vote. Up until this point, only a few states gave women the right to vote, and there was no national law allowing them to vote. The suffrage movement greatly expanded after the Seneca Falls conference in 1848, where many feminists gathered for a national women’s right conference. After this conference, the right to vote became a main goal of the women’s rights movement. About 70 years later, the amendment was passed, giving women in every state the right to vote.
