Description:
The Spanish American War was started by the U.S. getting angry over Spain’s brutal treatment of Cuba, who was trying to gain independence. After the USS Maine exploded, Spain was blamed, and the war started soon after. The US was the winner of the Spanish American War, so Spanish rule in Latin America was ended, and the US ended up gaining control of a lot of their former colonies like Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines.
