Description:
Vicksburg was a Union victory that took place in Mississippi. The Union soldiers under Grant made a few attacks then laid a siege around the Southern soldiers who were in trenches. This battle was a key Union victory as they now had access all down the Mississippi river without Confederate resistance. The lack of Confederate resistance helped speed up the end of the war because Union troops could travel the Mississippi river without opposition.
