Description:
The Louisiana Purchase was a purchase by the United States, under Thomas Jefferson, of a huge portion of the center of North America from France. The US paid what would be about 250 million dollars today. While the purchase faced some opposition from federalists, but Jefferson argued that his right in the Constitution to negotiate treaties gave him the power to purchase the land. The Louisiana Purchase about doubled the land of the country.
