Description:
After about 5 months of fighting, the allies were finally able to break through the German defense lines in Anzio and Cassino. This battle paved the way for the allies to capture Rome, since it was only a couple of weeks away after the battle of Anzio.
The battle of Anzio is a significant battle, because it helped break the Gustav line, which would eventually lead to the capture of Rome. Later, this would come into play when Italy would be liberated.
