may 8, 1945 - End of the Battle of the Atlantic

Description:

The Battle of the Atlantic, ended when the Axis in Europe had surrendered. This is because they had agreed to unconditional surrender. Throughout the war, the convoy system proved successful, since more and more cargo reached its destination. Also, less of the cargo was sunk by the submarine. One device that helped greatly, however, was radar. Radar was able to show if there was a submarine nearby, helping the convoy systems.
The significance of the Battle of the Atlantic is very crucial. Without this victory, supplies could not reach Britain and it would have been much tougher to fight this war. Britain could have also eventually fall. Then the US and Canada would have been targeted.
