12h 22min, mar 9, 1862 y - U.S.S. Monitor vs. C.S.S Virginia
Description:
The Confederacy rebuilt the C.S.S. Virginia vessel from a formerly known vessel called the C.S.S. Merrimack. In the beginning of the battle the Confederates sank two Union ships, but later the U.S.S. Monitor cruised into the Bay. This battle lasted four grueling hours while the ships dueled it out without enough gun power to destroy one’s ships. In the end the Confederacy pulled back to Northfolk. This battle not only led to the battle of Shiloh but began a new level of naval warfare.
