13h 19min, jan 1, 1863 y - Emancipation Proclamtation
Description:
During the American Civil War President Lincoln deemed preserving the Union more concerning than the abolition of slavery. However he was convinced abolition was a strong military strategy because of the amount of slaves fleeing to Northern invading states. After a Union victory at Antietam, Lincoln announced following January First 1863, all slaves in rebellion states “Shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free.” The Emancipation Proclamation was a turning point in the Civil War creating the battle for human freedom more important than preserving the Union.
