I believe that the unification of Germany was the most important event in European history because the role Germany came to play in the future. Germany quickly became a world power during the 2nd industrial revolution upsetting the balance of power. Realizing this Germany took action eventually starting WW1 devastating nations and creating the Great depression. Lastly When Hitler came to power in 1933 he made moves that lead to yet another world war containing the Holocaust and giving rise to the Soviet Union and The United States.
