Many killed in the Battle of Dieppe.
5000 Canadians landed at the battle.
900 killed, 1000 wounded, 1900 taken prisoner.
Provided valuable lesson for allies.
Erased idea that tanks and surprise was enough.
Made clear the difficulties of assaulting a well-defended port, the need for better intelligence on beach conditions and German defences.
As well as better communication between infantry on beach and commanders offshore, and need for specialized landing craft and tanks to overcome beach obstacles.
