Description:

A peacekeeping mission established by the United Nation Security Council between 1994- 1997, the United Nations Verification Mission in Guatemala (MINUGUA) was used to supervise the fulfillment of the presentation of the agreement on the definitive cease-fire, signed by the Government of Guatemala and the Unidad Revolucionaria Nacional Guatemalteca (URNG) on 4 December 1996.

This includes the formal termination of hostilities, the separation of forces, and the demobilization of URNG combatants in areas organized as follows: human rights; indigenous affairs; social, economic and agrarian; strengthening of civilian power and role of the army in a democratic society; and resettlement and integration.

Members of the Unidad Revolucionaria Nacional Guatemalteca (URNG) wait to receive certificates after fighting a demobilization process, where they get to acquire skills that prepared them civilian life.
