While attending a play named “Our American Cousin” at Ford’s Theater in Washington D.C. just a few days after Lee’s surrender, Abraham Lincoln was shot. 9 hours later he died. President Andrew Johnson replaced Abraham Lincoln as President of the U.S. The assassin was named John Wilkes Booth, a pro-secessionist actor. Booth escaped and was later shot and killed on April 26th. Four co-conspirators (including one woman) were hanged after being found guilty of plotting to assassinate President Lincoln
