The 1930s was a rough time for everyone. Employment was scarce. Famine and death ran rampent around the country. The Canadian government decided to set up work camps for unemployed men. These camps were rough, full of illness and almost completely useless. In protest the men from the camps went on strike and began a trek to Ottawa. Not having cars or buses meant that hundreds of men were riding in empty train cars.
