oct 16, 1970 - 1970, Canada invokes the war measures act in Quebec
Description:
In October of 1970 Quebec hit a breaking point. The violent Quebec separatist group, the FLQ, was wreaking havoc across the province. PM Pierre Trudeau made the bold decision to enact the war measures act for the first time in Canadian history. The war measures act meant soldiers and tanks were patrolling the streets of Quebec. This act changed the way Canada responded to similar situations because we realized how far the government can go. October 1970 has become infamous in Canadian history.
