Description:
Despite the 15th Amendment, some states found a number of ways to prevent African Americans from voting. Some states required citizens to pay tax, or fee for voting. The 24th amendment in 1964 finally made poll taxes illegal. This amendment was an important step toward protecting the rights of African Americans.
