Description:
August 29, 1862: While John Pope's Union force was waiting for George McClellan’s Army of the Potomac, Confederate General Robert E. Lee decided to attack first. At first, Lee only sent half of his men to fight, both sides suffered heavy losses, but still held their ground. When Lee sent the rest of his troops, the Union was forced to withdraw their army. This battle was important because it was the deciding battle in the Civil War campaign.
