Description:
On February 27, 1860 Abraham Lincoln went to New York and gave a speech that increased his chances on winning the 1860 election. He recognized the 39 signers of the constitution and noted that 21 of them mentioned that they should control slavery and not let it run free. In his speech he said that the Republicans idea was similar to the Founding Fathers and that southerners shouldn’t be surprised about it. The speech gave him loyal support and in the end got him chosen as the republican candidate on May 18, 1860.
