mar 9, 1862 - Battle of Two Ironclads
Description:
On March 9, 1862 the Union’s Monitor and the Confederacy’s Virginia, two ironclad ships, fought. Both shots from the ship failed to puncture the other ship, but after four hours a shot from the Virginia pierced the iron shell blinding their line of sight. This was enough time for the Virginia to flee concluding the battle as a draw. The ironclads marked an end to wooden battleships and were used throughout the civil war.
