On March 4, 1861 Abraham Lincoln becomes the 16 president of the United States of America and uses his inauguration to address the seceded states. He showed the confederacy that he meant no harm to the states. He says “I have no purpose, directly or indirectly, to interfere with the institution of slavery where it begins.” In the end, Lincoln’s attempt at friendship was denied leaving Abraham Lincoln to decide what to do next.
