people had a hard time traveling because they had to trust sailors but the magnetic compass, a tool that shows which direction is north,c came to came from Europe to China. The astrolabe was a tool that helped sailors use the sun and stars to fins their location.
This lead many to travel a lot farther. For example, Christopher Colombus believed he could reach Asia by sailing west, something no European had done before. In 1429 King and Queen of Spain sponsored Colombu's expedition becase they wanted to control more of Asia and could make them rich.
