jul 17, 1810 - 1810: Israel Jacobson's Temple opens
Description:
Jews in Germany and Austria were faced with the problem of how to remain faithful to Judaic rituals and be loyal and active citizens of the countries that granted them freedom and equality. As a result, many Jews changed Judaism itself. Israel Jacobson opened his “Temple” on July 17, 1810. This was the first Reform synagogue in Seesen, Germany. The opening service was unprecedented in German Jewry. The service was not only attended by Jews, but Christians as well.
