jan 1, 1780 - 1780: Moses Mendelssohn translates Torah into German
Description:
Moses Mendelssohn was a strong activist in German Judaism. He broke open the walls of the ghetto, and he wanted the Jewish people to adapt to the average German lifestyle. Instead of speaking Yiddish (a language that only they knew), he wanted the Jews to learn German. So, he translated the Torah into German.
