jan 1, 1350 - 1350: Polish King Casimir welcomes Jews
Description:
Jews wandered to Poland in order to escape persecution in Germany. King Casimir welcomed the Jews. It was a “win-win” situation for both Poland and the Jews. Poland benefited because it had received a middle class. The Jews set up the banking system and had a major role in importing and exporting goods. The king made the Jews directly subordinate to the crown. This gave Jews a special legal status that protected them from anti-Semitism and allowed them to be self-governed.
