Description:
The Indian Removal Act was a law signed by President Andrew Jackson. It stated that the president to had the authority to exchange Indian land within existing state borders with unsettled land west of the Mississippi. A couple tribes went peacefully, but many resisted the relocation act. The natives unwillingness to go led to the forced removal of many tribes, a movement that is known as the "Trail of Tears."
