A United States antitrust law that prescribes the rule of free competition among those engaged in commerce that was passed by Congress under the presidency of Benjamin Harrison. It is named for Senator John Sherman, its principal author.
Was enacted to curtail combinations of power that interfere with trade and reduce economic competition. It outlaws both formal cartels and attempts to monopolize any part of commerce in the United States.
