Period of nationalism marked by territorial expansion and development of new political strategies. Largely supported by the population, especially in the South.
Country more unified, developped its own culture (non-European). Development of home market (US economically independant of EU, benefiting all regions of the country).
The power of the federal government grew.
Also begennin of growing oppositions between the North and South regarding the question of expansion of slavery.
New impulse of westard expansion at the war's end, waves of settlers into the interior = pressure for expansion of the nation's borders and opening of frontier for settlement.
Period of great westward migration = rich, abundant and cheap lands in the interior.
US population grew dramatically in the first 20 years of the nineteenth century.
Development of transportation, and communication, especially for commerce and expansion = roads, turnpikes and canals.
