Franklin Delano Roosevelt, a Democrat, is the only American president to have served more than two consecutive terms. He governed the country for twelve years. Elected in the midst of an economic crisis, President Roosevelt set the country on the road to economic recovery. State intervention in the economy, taxation of wealth, policy of major works... this was the famous "New De". His third term in office marked the entry of the United States into the Second World War. On 7 December 1941, the American base at Pearl Harbor was bombed by the Japanese army. President Roosevelt was present at the Yalta Conference in 1945, which he initiated. He died on 12 April 1945, a few months into his fourth term.
