Description:
Directed against Democratic-Republicans, the party typically favored by new citizens.
Alien Act: President authorized to detain or deport foreigners when the nation was at war.
Alien Law: President could expel any alien deemed dangerous to the country.
Naturalization Act: required all aliens to live fourteen years in the country before they could become citizens.
Sedition Act: Introduced fines or imprisonment for persons convicted or conspiring to oppose the execution of the laws or of publishing falso and malicious writings concerning the president or the government.
