Description:
System that the US Constitution set up to ensure that no one branch of government would become too powerful.
Inserted to prevent usurpation or concentration of power in any one branch for the purpose of protecting minority rights from the potential tyranny of the majority.
In their power to amend the Constitution and to elect the President and members of the Senante, the states also gained a role in applying cheks and balances.
