Description:
A national government was created by the union of states. It stood above the state goverments in specified matters, while it acknowledged the role of the states or shared power with them in others.
State official were required to take an oath to support the Constitution, state courts to recognize the Constitution and the laws and the traties made under it as the suprem law.
Principle of separation of powers = The Constitution greatly increased the power of central goverment but carefully divided its functions into 3 distinct branches:
- Executive
- Legislative
- Judicial
