Description:
As soon as the colonies decided on independence, the Continental Congress authorized a committe of 13 to draft articles of more permanent union.
The Articles of Confederation provided for a league among sovereign states.
Each state had one vote in the Federal Congress and unanimous consent was required to amend the Articles.
The Confederation Congress could: borrow moneu, regulate the currency, establish a postal service, regulate Native American affaires and settle interstate disputes.
Objectives: to keep decisions in the hand of the people and to prevent the concentration of power in a central authority = rejection of monarchy + fear of potential tyranny and anarchy.
