Famous skirmishes at Lexington and Concod between General Gage's troops (GB) and the Massachusetts Minutemen (Gage had ordered his troops to destroy American military stores and to arrest such colonial leaders as John Hancock or Samuel Adams).
Over 1,000 British casualties
Milita from all the New England provinces (16,000 in arms) surrounded Gage's regiments in Boston while Massachusetts leaders appealed to all other colonies for aid.
