Description:
A result of the tobacco boom set in motion by John Rolfe. The first black Africans came to Virginia in 1619 with no slave laws in place and were initially treated as indentured servants but slave laws were soon passed (Massachusetts, 1641 and Virginia, 1661). Their freedom were taken away.
