On November 4, 1979, Iranian students took hold of the embassy and took more than 50 Americans, ranging from the Chargé d’Affaires to the most junior members of the staff, as hostages. The American diplomats were held hostage for 444 days.
With all of the many obstacles to get global peace, President Carter greatly altered his view of the Soviet Union.
