The 12 tables of law were a written set of laws posted in the forum of the town. Ignorance of law threatened their growing control of property and invited abuses by dishonest. Authority would be more lenient on the rich and more harsh on the poor. Now that there is a list of laws and punishment no one can be unfairly treated.
