In this new book, Smith criticized Mercantilism, which was the prominent economic system in Europe at this time. He argued that this policy gave government too much involvement, nad that a free market economy would be more ideal. Smith wrote that a free market economy ensured the ability for both the rich and poor to obtain wealth. Adam Smith's book was an instigator of change, and promoted a gradual transition from Mercantilism to Capitalism.
