In 1730, Lord Charles returns to Norfolk, England where he starts to spread the word about turnips after having grown them successfully on his own. The farmers who borrowed Charles' land began to grow crops including turnips and no longer leaving fields fallow, and they observed improvement in crop size and quality. As a result of better and larger crop yield, Townshend and those farming his land increased their revenues. After seeing the success from growing turnips, farmers around England began growing it and reaping more profit. The implementation of the turnip changed agricultural traditions and paved the way for more advancements.
