apr 17, 1984 - OLIVER V. UNITED STATES, 1984

Description:

Police officers investigated claims that Oliver was growing marijuana in an open field that was roughly a mile from his home. This field was no visible from any location that was accessible to the public.

The Supreme Court had to decide if the protections afforded under the Fourth Amendment applied to open fields.

The Court held that the open field doctrine applies in this case, and that a person cannot reasonably expect privacy in an area that is out in the open that isn't immediately surrounding their home.
