may 27, 1940 - Operation dynamo commences
Description:
a handful of supply ships, ferries and small passenger vessels set sail for Dunkirk however embarking on the boats proves challenging the shallow waters of Dunkirk are too shallow to allow or suit larger vessels making it more difficult for rescue. To protect the port the British and french troops establish a strong perimeter and these defences hold back the panzers by land but by air the Luftwaffe attack raising terror from below. The royal air force launches its own air force to protect the ships and the soldiers down below. The German and British warplanes have vicious fights up above and by the end of the day only 7,669 troops are successfully evacuated.
