oct 6, 1936 - Asturian Miner Strike

Description:

This was a major strike action taken against the entry of CEDA into the Spanish government that developed into a revolutionary uprising. This strike was eventually ended by the Spanish Navy and Army. The reason why this strike started was because of the outcome of the 1933 election. The right side had won overwhelmingly in 1933, which led to contempt from the other side. The left set out to form an alliance with some workers organizations. This was met with disdain from the CNT, and when the strike began, the CNT responded with aloofness, and allowed the anarchist militants to raid the workers and let the police take them away. Strikes in other parts of the country was also met with the strikers simply being arrested. Because of this, the strike didn't do too well, and was shut down quickly.
