A demonstration against hunger leads in the evening to a veritable revolutionary insurrection.
The liberal mayor of Naples, Enrico Presutti is forced to resign and a revolutionary committee composed of the anarchist Errico Malatesta proclaims the Republic of the Councils of Campania as well as the Commune of Naples.
