Description:
That night, Seward tells an attendant to guard outside Renfield's cell and to write down any odd behavior. Later in the night there is a scream from Renfield's cell. Seward sees that Renfield has been hurt badly... his face has been beaten, there is a puddle of blood on the cell floor, and his back is apparently broken.
