Description:
This was fought over a island in the Pacific that was a crucial base for the Americans. The Japanese had been invading and decimating many of the islands in the Pacific and now had an empire that covered 1/3 of the world. If the Japanese conquered Midway they would have a lunching base from which to attack the U.S. directly.
