On May 1, 2011, special United States forces raided Abbottabad, Pakistan in an effort to capture or kill Osama Bin Laden, the leader of Al Qaeda. American military personnel and intelligence agents had been hunting Bin Laden for almost 10 years because he took responsibility for the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Bin Laden was killed in the raid and he was buried at sea the next day.
