oct 26, 1825 - Erie Canal
Description:
The Erie canal connected the great lakes to the atlantic ocean. The canal ran from the lakes to the Hudson river, which flowed into the Atlantic ocean.
It made the south resent the north because the south had the strongest ports, but when the canal was built England started shipping goods into New York and up the canal rather than up the Mississippi river.
